ADDITION FLASHCARDS
If your child does not have a set of addition flashcards to practice with at home please get them now! The flashcards should be up to sums of 20. Any higher are not necessary for now. We must master the basics first!

We have begun our weekly language arts routine! You will see the following assessments start coming home on a weekly basis, in addition to the spelling test. Please take the time to review these paper with your child at home. Congratulate them on a job well done and/or go over any mistakes.

1. Two reading test- One is comprehension of the week's story and the other is vocabulary skills and comprehension skills

2. Writing for sounds sentences- One grade is for handwriting (neatness/slant/letter formation/spacing) and the other is language (grammar/mechanics/spelling application).

October 5- October 9

Fire Safety Week! At the end of the week you will see the activity book we have been working on come home- please go over this with your son/daughter and be sure to do pages 7 and 12 as a family at home.

MATH
Please get a set of addition flashcards to keep at home if you don’t already have them (subtraction will be coming soon). We’ve started chapter 2, addition, and I will be conducting addition time tests to ensure that all children have their math facts memorized. Addition is very much drill and memorization so practicing at home helps significantly!

There were three cases of head lice last week at school, one in first grade. Please remind your son/daughter that they should not be sharing hair accessories, hats, combs, brushes and should not touch/play with other children's hair.
